Coronavirus (COVID-19) Travel Updates

COVID-19 Crisis and Event Status Report.

As at: Monday 30th March, 2020.

The World Health Organization (WHO) has declared the novel coronavirus outbreak a global pandemic. Various Governments, including Australia & New Zealand, have introduced new travel restrictions. At Mates’ Escapes the health & safety of our guests, staff and affiliates is always our top priority. We are keeping a close eye on what is a fluid and evolving situation. Our hearts go out to those who have been directly impacted by the virus. We hope you and your family are safe and healthy.

In addition to the health issues cause by the pandemic, the economic effects of COVID-19 have been felt world-wide. The travel and professional sporting industries have been particularly disrupted.

At the time of this publication, the following Mates’ Escapes events have been affected:

2020 Formula 1® Australian Grand Prix has been cancelled. As more information comes to hand on the fall out from this cancellation, we will be in touch with those customers who have been affected.

2020 US Masters has been postponed. We will provide an update as we hear more from the tournament organisers.

2020 AFL Season has been cancelled (Season suspended until 31st May 2020).

2020 NRL Season has been suspended (Season suspended until June 2020).

2020 NRL State of Origin Series suspended (Season suspended until June 2020).

2020 Darwin Supercars is proceeding.

2020 Gold Coast 600 Supercars is proceeding

2020 Bathurst 1000 Supercars is proceeding.

2020 Darwin Cup Carnival proceeding.

We are working with our suppliers and the official event organisers to achieve the best possible outcome for all of our guests who have purchased travel packages with Mates’ Escapes. We have been and we’ll continue to communicate directly to guests that have been effected as information arises and/or changes.

Although these are the only Mates’ Escapes events currently effected, the nature of this pandemic is resulting in a fluid & rapidly evolving situation. We expect more events scheduled in March & April to be affected.

There is currently no need for concern regarding events scheduled for May and beyond, however the reality is this could change.

We appreciate there is a lot of information and misinformation regarding COVID-19 and the possible impact on your event. We endeavour to provide you information from trusted and official sources as quickly as possible. Until we have confirmed information from a number of sources, we cannot speculate on what will occur with particular events, locations or specific travel packages.
