Melbourne Cup Hospitality: Location, Location, Location!
February 5, 2016
Where you pay to be on-track on Melbourne Cup day can definitely make or break your experience, so it pays to do a bit of homework before you decide which option will suit you and your fellow punters. We think it’s like buying your own little piece of Flemington Racecourse ‘real estate’ for race day, so why not approach the purchase the same way!
What’s Your Budget?
Know your budget. A pretty straightforward one we know, but this will obviously have a large bearing what your options are going to be. To give you an idea, prices for The Cup in 2015 ranged from $74 to $2,100. There’s no use hoping for exclusive panoramic CBD views of Flemington’s Rose Room with it’s all-inclusive morning tea, 5 –course lunch, champagne, wine, beers and table service if your budget is more in line with something a little more basic!
Proximity to the CBD
We liken the ‘race track’ to the CBD. However, not all race goers are worried about ‘proximity to the CBD’ on Cup Day. A very large portion plan to do their ‘best work’ in the surrounding bars, lawn areas and restaurants! Flemington racecourse’s The Precinct is entirely set up for this. With no view of the racetrack its focus is purely on the social aspect. Featuring live music, outdoor umbrella café/bar style seating and take-away food outlets (no kebabs!), you can see why it’s very popular with younger female residents!
Close to Transport
Getting to Flemington racecourse can be done in several ways and is extremely well organized with almost every mode of transport imaginable on offer. We covered this in our ‘Getting to the Melbourne Cup’ blog. If you want your home at Flemington to be as close to your transport, consider booking a boat transfer and take up residence at either the Makybe Diva Marquee or The Village sections of the track. Once you experience how easy and relaxed this option is, you’ll never go any other way!
The Views
As we know, views count when it comes to real estate and expect to pay a premium for views at Flemington racecourse on Cup Day. Sought after locations boasting the best track views are worth the investment! If you wanting an exclusive track viewing area with included hospitality, then the Home Straight Enclosure or Parade Lounge may suit. However, if your budget doesn’t quite allow for those, consider grandstand reserved seating at either the Undercroft, Lawn Stand or Hill Stand.
Happy hunting!
