The 2024 Event
The Repco Bathurst 1000 is a 1000km V8 Supercar race held at the Mount Panorama Circuit in Bathurst NSW. We’ve got access to exclusive central Bathurst based accommodation where you’ll be in the heart of the action and only a stone’s throw from the race circuit.
What is the Bathurst 1000
The Bathurst 1000, also known as the Repco Bathurst 1000 or more colloquially referred to as The Great Race by locals and the media, is an annual car racing event that takes place at Bathurst, New South Wales in Australia.
Originally known as the Armstrong 500 for its 500-mile track, this race was initially held on the Phillip Island in Victoria, Australia and was later transferred to Bathurst in the year 1963. The early years of the race was dominated by mostly smaller cars, until the game-changer V8 Ford Falcon GT was developed in the late 1960s.
Often referred to as the pinnacle of motorsport in Australia, the Bathurst 1000 is one of the most anticipated car races in the country.
At the 2006 race, the Peter Brock Trophy was introduced and has since become the trophy presented to the succeeding winners of the race. The trophy was made to commemorate the beloved racer Peter Brock who was regarded as the most successful in the history of the race.
What to do in Bathurst while you’re there for the race
While Bathurst is more commonly known as the centre for motor racing, it’s still safe to assume that this town has a lot more to offer.
If you’re planning on going into town for more than just the car race event and you’re bringing along some loved ones – even kids – with you, then there are definitely a lot of places that you can explore and check out while you’re in the area.
There are places like the Australian Fossil & Mineral Museum where you can actually see a full-size T-rex skeleton. You may also check out the Bathurst Regional Art Gallery if you and/or your loved ones are looking to see some art exhibits. And of course, there’s also the National Motor Racing Museum for the motor racing fans and enthusiasts to enjoy.
There are tons of restaurants and bars that you could also dine in at and a well-loved local ice cream parlour that you can visit for your dessert.
More than just the Mount Panorama Racing Circuit, there are tons of other things to do, sights to see, food to eat, and places to visit in the beautiful Bathurst.
