The Experience
This French Alps ski trip is built for confident skiers and snowboarders who are looking for a unique snow holiday in the worlds best skiing destination. The fundamental philosophy of this trip is that ‘ the most perfect ski grounds are mostly found on the Resort’s backside slopes’. To execute, a fully professional qualified local guide is paramount. Expect some hard work to put yourself in the right position from the top of the ski lifts. This could be a short walk or a traverse to reach perfect off-piste skiing grounds. Have no doubt, your hard work and commitment will be greatly rewarded with high quality and fresh secluded snow runs!
Food & Drink
Your evening meals are well planned and are a combination of both Italian and French traditional dishes. After a big day on the slopes we aim to recharge your energy levels through offering warm rich hearty meals along with mulled wine. All you have to do is relax with your mates and relive the days skiing.
Safety
As with all Mates’ Escapes experiences, we take your safety very seriously and when your adventure takes you to such environments like fresh snow and high altitudes we plan and take as many precautions as we can. That said, there are no major risks except those that are applicable to mountain skiing (e.g. skiing injuries, weather, avalanches etc.). We reduce these risks through detailed preparation prior to your days skiing. You and your fellow skiers also play a large part by skiing within your limits at all times. Your guide for this trip is very experienced and knows the region you will ski extremely well. Your guide will make any necessary adjustments to you days skiing route should the conditions require.
In the unlikely event of a rescue situation, protocols are well established and local rescue operators can be contacted via the huts and in some areas directly by mobile phone. In the Alps the emergency 112 works almost everywhere. In that regard, part of the price of this trip is a French Alpine Club (CAF) membership (35€) that provides a comprehensive rescue insurance cover anywhere in remote alpine range, including helicopter (often the only way to get out fast).
Sainte Foy
Sainte Foy is small in stature but punches way above its weight when compared to the larger French Alps ski resorts. Nestled in the high Tarentaise Valley in France and its neighbours including the surrounded by the skiing giants of Les Arcs, Tignes and Val d’Isere, Sainte Foy is a quaint French Alps resort that has locally built stone and timber chalets that charm any who visit. Not to mention, it’s an absolute sanctuary for all that is good about snow. Its gained a solid reputation among skiers for its quality powder off-piste terrain and crowd less trails that provides visitors with an excellent backcountry skiing experience. Another bonus is that it has a host of vibrant bars and restaurants in the village to satisfy all.
Valmoral
Built in the mid 70s, Valmoral is a purpose built French ski resort that has uniquely achieved a sense of charm with its low-rise timber buildings and slate roofs. Snow runs are genrally graded from green to black but it has gained attraction for its off-piste skiing at the Massif de la Lauziere.
Les Marmottons
Location, Location, Location. Les Marmottons is perfectly situated for this French Alps skiing itinerary and is situated in the well known skiing area of Grand Domaine. This area sees Saint François Longchamp link to Valmorel.
